News Update
Summer is here. Time to relax and enjoy the great outdoors...finally! But I am still busy in the studio and at my computer.
Over the Winter and Spring I have continued working on my “QUEENS” series. Six of them have already been on exhibit, the remainder will be out soon. A challenging project, for sure!!
The “ICONS” series is progressing too. More about that later.
My two books have finally been published (self-published).
“A PEAR A DAY” represents one year of my blog’s personal journal, no words, just drawings of pears! A blog is a wonderful tool but it only exists on the internet and I am old fashioned enough to need a hard copy of certain things. For a peek, visit:

The photo essay “TREES” is a collection of photographs depicting the sculptural aspect of tree trunks or limbs. It is not an art book or a National Geographic type publication, just something I started looking into a few years ago. You can get a peek at:
http://www.blurb.com/search/site_search?search=Trees+by+Marie-Louise+McHugh&filter=bookstore&commit=Search.
By creating these two books I gained an immense respect for publishers', editors' and proof readers’ work.... enough headaches to drive me crazy!! But I made it and the result is OK.
Now to the sad news: The art world is in trouble. The economy has hurt a lot of artists and galleries. I am not talking super star artists or big time galleries, just very good, hard working artists and wonderful local or regional galleries. Please continue to visit and support them, even modestly. If we can make it through this rough patch, we will be fine, but a lot of your favorite places might disappear for good. One of my galleries, Deborah Davis Gallery in Hudson NY, sadly closed its doors for good last month. Others are just hanging on.
And lastly - My first “Queen”, Queen Anne passed away last month. Such a terrible loss. Her painting was at her Memorial service. She was a true QUEEN.
Now back to the sunshine....

News Update and New Paintings

This Winter, I have been away from home a lot, which means that I was not able to spend much time in my studio. A project involving icons evolved slowly and here are four paintings I feel like showing at this point. They are smaller than my usual paintings, acrylic on gessoed board (very portable + they fit into my suitcase!) and are going to be part of an upcoming exhibition at the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz, NY (www.markgrubergallery.com).One of them is also going to be shown at the Hughes Gallery in Boca Grande, FL in April (www.hughesgallery.net)
Travelling with my computer inspired me to compile a book of images from this blog. From June 10 , 2005 to June 9, 2006 I published one painting or drawing a day of pears whose "personalities" or "poses" illustrated what had happened to me on that particular day. Blogs, unfortunately, are like slide shows, you can only view them thanks to technology. As an member of an older generation I prefer photo books, news papers and still print out a lot of things I should simply read on my computer screen. The editing of the book is almost completed and I cannot wait to see the resulting “hard copy” . More about this later....
